Vote of Thanks

Bill Dixon is asked by the chairman to give the vote of thanks.

Bill: Mr Chairman, gentlemen and the gentleman known as Chick …. It’s been a privilege listening to your recollections of your incarceration in Japan. Looking around at the faces was telling me that they were enthralled and extremely interested. I speak with a wee bit of background knowledge because my former boss in Dunlop was in the Argyle in Southern Highlanders and was actually captured in Singapore. He never fired a shot in anger. Jim could never forgive the Japanese. The Dunlop Company and its counterpart in Japan is a joint effort. One day, as the Japanese walked in the front door, Jimmy walked out the back and never, ever came back. Mr Henderson, thank you very much indeed. I would ask the members of the Probus Club to show their appreciation in the normal way and give you what’s in this envelope, and if you’ll excuse me, in the hope that you’ll use it to the best advantage. Thank you very much indeed.

Chick: Thank you very much. Thank you.

Applause.
